SophiA consortium met in Cape Town
Held from March 15 to 17, 2023, the 18-month SophiA progress meeting took place in hybrid format between South Africa and Germany. The majority of the SophiA consortium partners met in Cape Town, South Africa, in the facilities of Everflo, and those partners who could not travel joined the meeting online from the Hochschule Karlsruhe University (HKA) in Germany. Over the three days, all of the SophiA work packages were examined in detail giving way to fruitful discussions on the benefits of developing the SophiA technologies as well as the future positive impacts they will have on the African communities were they will be implemented. It was also an opportunity to meet, for the first time, the African based partners who were unble to travel to Germany for the kick-off meeting in 2021 due to the Covid pandemic. Partners Everflo and Kovco showcased the progress of the construction of the SophiA containers which are well underway. The next step; the installation of the first SophiA containers at the Léo hospital in Burkina Faso. Is it important to mention that the partners responsible for Capacity Building provided internal workshops on the main topics and technologies of the project: refrigeration, water treatment, solar PV and solar thermal. These workshops were an important first step in the preparation of the material and content for the knowledge exchange and training activities that SophiA will organise for external stakeholders later in the project.
