On 4 June, SophiA participated in a joint webinar alongside its sister projects REFFECT AFRICA, ENERGICA, SteamBioAfrica and SESA, all funded by Horizon Europe. Together, these projects are leading the European-African partnership to advance renewable and sustainable energy solutions across rural Africa.
Michael Kauffeld, coordinator of the SophiA project, gave an overview of the project, its main objectives, impact and ongoing news about the installation of the containers in Burkina Faso.
The webinar showcased the European-African partnership’s advancements in renewable energy technologies and strategies aimed at improving access to energy across the African continent. Each project brought unique insights and innovations to the table:
- REFFECT AFRICA demonstrates innovative, reliable and adapted sustainable energy solutions based on the valorisation of biomass waste from agriculture and the food industry through biomass gasification.
- ENERGICA demonstrates the efficient implementation of renewable energy technologies to address the needs of local contexts.
- SteamBioAfrica creates a commercially viable technological solution that will stimulate the harvesting of invasive woody biomass.
- SESA aims to provide energy access technologies and business models that are easily replicable and generate local opportunities for economic development and social cohesion in Africa.
