The architect of the Léo Hospital, Francis Kéré, has won the prestigious 2024 Crystal Awardfrom the World Economic Forum.
This award celebrates the achievements of leading artists who are bridge-builders and role models for all leaders in society. It is an excellent way of recognising Mr Kéré’s exceptional contributions to architecture and his commitment to addressing global challenges.
He received this award for his leadership in providing the Gando community in Burkina Faso with the means to create a socially, economically, and ecologically sustainable future through projects that focus on education, health, and the environment. The Gando Primary School was constructed using locally In particular, he designed the primary school in his native village of Gando using locally-sourced materials.
Born in Burkina Faso, Francis Kéré established the Kéré Foundation to support the development of his home village. Construction of the Léo Hospital was completed in 2014.
