The first SophiA systems – the solar-powered cooling and clean water containers – are operational at Everflo in Cape Town, South Africa!
From 9th to 16th of November 2023, Andreas and Lukas from SPF were at Everflo to set up, parameterise and commission the PV solar and battery system. In addition, the SCADA control system was configured and communication with all the subsystems is now possible.
The energy supply for the two containers – water and refrigeration containers – now runs exclusively via the solar system and the batteries, which means that the subsystems can now be pre-tested on site over several days. Thanks to the PV solar system and batteries, both containers can run without any connection to the grid.
As the SCADA control system is also connected to the Internet via a GSM modem, the first measurement data can already be collected and evaluated remotely.
The containers are currently in the final testing phase, to make sure they are fully operational before being shipped to the first demonstration site in Burkina Faso.
