SophiA “Train the Trainers” Workshop in Uganda
From 23–27 June 2025, Uganda will host a landmark five-day training program on sustainable off-grid technologies for medical refrigeration, under the European-funded SophiA project. The training will be held over two locations: three days at Makerere University in Kampala, followed by two days at Buvuma Hospital, where World Refrigeration Day will be officially celebrated in partnership with District Officials and a Delegation from the Buganda Kingdom.
Organised in collaboration with the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at Makerere University, this “Train the Trainers” workshop is designed to build local capacity and promote innovative cooling technologies that ensure access to life-saving refrigeration in remote, off-grid medical settings.
The event will bring together up to 25 selected participants, including engineers, technicians, healthcare facility managers, and public officials, for an immersive experience in the use and deployment of SophiA’s solar-powered refrigeration systems.
The celebrations on World Refrigeration Day (26 June) at Buvuma Hospital will highlight the importance of refrigeration in healthcare, especially in regions with limited infrastructure.
